Wise old friend
I have a wise old friend with whom I discuss many things, both important and unimportant.
We talked a lot during the lead-up to the 2024 US presidential election.
My friend felt, and I felt, that the energy was strong (so to speak) for the nation to adopt the loving, peaceful, prosperous timeline promised under Biden and Harris.
We felt that the energy was super strong for Harris--we felt a longing among the American people for leadership that was compassionate and competent, like Biden's, with the added jolt of fresh, new, young vibrance promised by Harris.
"But look what we ended up with!" I recently lamented to my friend.
"Ah, but what you ended up with only proves how strong the energy was for Harris," my friend responded.
Me: [surprised Pikachu face]
"I'm very serious," my friend continued. "The people of your nation are indeed thirsting for the kind of leadership Ms. Harris has to offer. They are longing for a more just society with a more level playing field that benefits the workers as much as the bosses. They long for peace and prosperity. The reason you got what you got instead of her is that she could not be the leader she is capable of being--or benefiting the American public in the way she is capable of benefiting them--because there is still far too much corruption and hate undergirding your present system. All that has to come up and be seen and dealt with before a leader of Ms. Harris's caliber could truly be effective."
I pondered.
"So you're saying that the current system would have hamstrung President Harris in the way it tried to hamstring President Obama. And even though those of us who are paying attention would already understand both the overt and covert racism and misogyny streamed at her by the republicans, there is still too much going on under the table and behind closed doors that we don't understand and that we as a nation must come to terms with before we can start healing our national wounds and moving forward in a positive direction."
"That's about the size of it."
"So you're saying that the fastest way to get to the better society we all dream of is by diving head-first into the muck so that we can finally see every bit of it all and start shoveling it all out."
"Exactly. Remember, all that muck makes great compost! The kinder, gentler way so many of you dreamed of and worked for was just not going to get you there. At best, it would only have prolonged the suffering of so many whom you want to receive help. As another of your wise old friends said, sometimes, it's just time to rip off the band-aid."
Well, dear ones, the band-aid has well and truly been ripped off. It's up to us to create the society we wish to see by being the society we wish to see. Again, do not resist, but DO NOT COMPLY. Focus on love and light and support those around you so we can build our better society from the inside out.
And for the love of Pete, be patient. Let the muck wash past--do not engage!--and keep all eyes on the prize of the more just, egalitarian, peaceful, prosperous society we ALL deserve.
