A Unique America

Cookie cutter public schools? Preplanned curricula? Don’t do it, America! Trust our public school educators. In that way, our country is assured of a rich and varied education. That is what makes our country unique. There may be a teacher or two who isn’t excellent at teaching, but that is the exception, not the rule.

When I attended public school, sixth grade, I wondered why the papers our Founding Fathers wrote were so important. Why did I have to memorize the Declaration of Independence, the Preamble to the Constitution, or The Bill of Rights? I wasn’t going to need that information again. That’s stupid!

The day started with the Principal getting on the PA system and laboriously going over every word, every sentence, every paragraph, making sure we kids understood their meanings. B-o-r-i-n-g, I thought.

Then I grew up.

At the time I was in sixth grade, the Jewish people had been persecuted and driven out of Germany. We know that story. The school I attended was made up predominantly of Jewish children of that era. They were dead serious about their studies and about the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.

Fast forward to the Dot Calm of today. Thanks to the Internet, I voluntarily researched each writer of the Federalist Papers: the very writings on which our Constitution is based.

If more Americans familiarized themselves with the writings of our Founding Fathers, I believe there would be less unrest in our country and better behavior from Presidents on down to every last citizen.

Read them, citizens of America!
