WARS R US!

Have you read the WikiLeaks yet? Hmmm, seems this country is hell-bent on making WAR our specialty. Think about it...do we import/export anything but guns? tanks? "smart" bombs? stupid bombs? All shapes and sizes of bombs? When I was a kid things like wheat, barley, oats were imported and exported. Now it's just artillery. What size bombs are you interested in? How many humans do you want to kill with one bomb? Interested in the cluster type? remote controlled? this one is a kick! you get to control the bomb on a TV screen...kinda like playing war games on TV...real? game? real? game? It's all the same phuquen thing!

Republicans to 9/11 Responders: Die, and Die Quickly

Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) went ballistic on the House floor today, his frustration is one for the ages. Not only was he angry, he was angry and frustrated. He spoke a truth, one that all of us expect from our representatives but rarely get. It's really quite simple: "If you believe that it's right, you vote yes. You don't hide behind procedure and give cover to your pals."

It's really that simple, but here's the back story. The House has been trying to re-open the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund through 2031 for 9/11 responders whose health has been affected.

When it became apparent that the Republicans were going to attach "poison pill" amendments to the bill that had nothing to do with 9/11 and everything to do with their political agenda, Democrats shut down the possibility of amending the bill by moving it to the suspension calendar, where a minimum 2/3rds vote is needed for it to pass.

Republicans applied the same old talking points, calling it a "massive new entitlement program." Actually, that's not quite right. They called it a "massive job-killing new entitlement program," because that's the Frank Luntz mantra of the week. (I was monitoring the Senate at the same time, and somehow the Small Business Jobs bill became another "massive job-killing new entitlement program.") Of course, that's nonsense too, given that it had been structured to be paid for by closing a tax loophole for foreign corporations.

If you believe it's right, you vote yes.

Republicans, for all their breast-pounding and glory-singing about patriotism, wouldn't know a patriot if one came up and bashed them between the eyes. Instead of standing for those people who gave no thought to their own safety but rushed forward to search for and rescue possible survivors of the attack, they defeated the measure!

Because it took a 2/3rds vote to pass without any amendments attached, most of the Republican caucus stood firm, and it went down 255-159, short of the 276 votes needed to pass.

There's only one reasonable conclusion to draw. Republicans don't believe it's right to care for 9/11 responders. They think it would be better for those responders to have to go to court, evidently because they might die before receiving a settlement to help them with their health problems.

The ten minutes leading into Rep. Weiner's rant (which, may I submit, was fabby) gave a sense of how cynical these people truly are. As the time for the vote neared and it was clear the bill might not pass, Speaker Nancy Pelosi came to the floor to exhort everyone to do the right thing:

The American people are looking to us to do the right thing for the men and women who answered the call of duty and continue to suffer from ill health effects on their service.

It is my understanding that the people affected by this live in 433 of the 435 congressional districts, because people not only rushed in from New York and surrounding areas, they came and brought their expertise and their help from all over the country.

And therefore, the consequences of their bravery are felt all over the country and the impact on their health is an important part of the challenge that they face and that we owe them for.

This legislation fulfills our obligation to those Americans.

And then Rep. Peter King (R-NY) stood and proved just how craven Republicans really are:

What we are doing tonight is a cruel hoax and a charade. Everyone knows this bill won't get the 2/3 majority required on the suspension calendar and everyone also knows that this bill would pass with a clear majority if the Democratic leadership would allow it to come to the floor under the regular procedures of the House.

Sometimes you Republicans can be such turds!

The 14th Amendment

This amendment provides a definition of a citizen of this country. This amendment provides that all states will provide equal protection to everyone within their jurisdiction. It provides due process under the law and equally provides all constitutional rights to all citizens of this country, regardless of race, sex, religious beliefs and creed.

Hear that, Republicans?

Oh, that darn Judge Bolton!

She went ahead and took all the fun out of playing Nazis!

Federal District Judge, Susan Bolton has temporarily blocked the most contentious portions of Arizona’s new immigration law on the eve of its implementation. Yesterday, her court issued a preliminary injunction which prevents the State of Arizona from authorizing its police to question people about their immigration status. She also blocked provisions of the law making it a crime to fail to apply for or carry alien registration papers or “for an unauthorized alien to solicit, apply for or perform work,” and a provision “authorizing the warrantless arrest of a person” if there is reason to believe that person might be subject to deportation.

Lunch With Bernie

Bernie Sanders is a Senator for the people. He appears every Friday for an hour of extremely important news for the middle class. He then also takes calls from the people during the last hour.

Tune in to Lunch With Bernie on the Thom Hartmann Show. Senator Sanders speaks frankly about the Republican obstruction and how this Republican Congress blocks every bill that represents help for the middle class, including the extension of Unemployment Compensation.

Senator Sanders should say to the President: We have serious obstruction by the Republican Party.

Sanders needs to suggest to the President that he rally the American middle class (Much the way FDR did.) by employing them with jobs rebuilding our infrastructure (which badly needs rebuilding).

Our President must understand that this country is seriously on its way to an OLIGARCHY.

We must all recognize that THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE  is no friend of the common man, or middle class. It is merely a wealthy right-wing tool.

If Republicans regain power of either House, or the White House, there will immediately be:

****** More tax breaks for the wealthy ******
****** Restructuring of Social Security ******
****** Repeal of the "Death Tax" ******

Look, Middle Class America: WE MUST FIGHT FOR AND DEFEND OURSELVES. WE ARE IN A WAR OF THE CLASSES!

IT WAS NO ACCIDENT THAT YOU LOST YOUR JOBS!
IT WAS NO ACCIDENT THAT YOU LOST YOUR HEALTH CARE INSURANCE!
IT WAS NO ACCIDENT THAT YOU LOST YOUR PENSIONS!
IT WAS NO ACCIDENT THAT YOU LOST YOUR HOMES!

And lastly, ask yourself where all that wealth went?
