Happy 4th of July? ...Funeral for what was, or celebration of what is? Wanted: community organizers for general strike & voter drive!

6 July 2017 update:

Greetings, fellow Dot Calm Readers, Freedom Fighters, and Truth Crusaders!

Damn, son...

Who knew how smoothly and easily tRump would go from being a national embarrassment to being an international one?

Who knew how easily the tRumpists would get triggered by our very own Declaration of Independence as tweeted by NPR on Independence Day? As more than one smart Tweep said, if you think the Declaration of Independence is against you, it is.

Who knew that tRump would go right back to denying Russia's interference in our election while still blaming O'Bama for not punishing Russia for interfering in our election?

FML.

Before I slawg on with le blawg, let me please again remind you: we REALLY need community organizers...as in REALLY REALLY need community organizers...to stand up a nationwide 100% everyone out in the streets we are shutting this whole thing down get every last everlovin' Republican's attention and show them we're more powerful than they are GENERAL STRIKE...and to organize an all-out voter drive to engage America's least served and most vulnerable poor populations so that we can find out what they know, share what we know, find out what they need, and elect Democratic leaders who will give it to them so we can achieve 80%+ participation in free and fair elections for all.

No more bullshitting around, friends--no more whitesplaining or mansplaining or anyonesplaining.

Just stand up good, progressive Democrats who will

  • Restore accountability, ensuring that no one is above the law, no matter how rich or powerful--which means not only prosecuting the tRump junta for corruption, treason, etc. but also prosecuting past administrations, like Bush and Cheney, for war crimes if found guilty
  • Restore free and fair elections with automatic voter registration and mail-in voting (like Oregon does), abolishing "Crosscheck" and addressing gerrymandering
  • Get big money or of politics, which means not taking corporate dole and overturning Citizens United
  • Make the rich pay their fair share (hey, the top tax rate was 90% under Ike)
  • Make the economy work for everyone so that the rich don't get richer at our expense
  • Establish a living wage so that, if you work 40 hours/week, you don't need Welfare, Medicaid, SNAP, or any other government benefits
  • Restore women's rights of bodily autonomy and free access to birth control, abortion, and whatever health care a woman and her doctor choose in her best interests only
  • Institute sensible gun control measures, like background checks and no-fly = no-buy
  • Reform police to teach cops how to do de-escalation so that it's not up to Us the People to de-escalate wigged out cops so we don't get shot
  • Restore science in the science classroom and build a big, beautiful wall between church and state
  • Eradicate superstition-based policy-making and education and replace them with evidence-based policy and education
  • Kick O'Bama's clean energy initiatives into high gear, as Hillary described, and rein in global warming while we still have time (assuming we still do, that is)
  • Identify high return-on-investment science to pursue and pursue it

For the richest nation on earth, this is not asking too much!

4 July 2017 post:

Greetings, fellow Dot Calm Readers, Freedom Fighters, and Truth Crusaders!

My dad and I are sitting here watching the Macy's 4th of July show with fireworks, patriotic music, and the best stars our popular culture has to offer.

And I confess, it feels absolutely jarring.

I mean, here is a corporation--Macy's--funding and hosting a patriotic party when the country has undergone a hostile take-over...a bloodless coup...by PEWtin with inside help from orange twAtler and his adherents.

It's hardly even the America I know and love any more.

When he's not out on the golf course protecting us from ISIS one duff and double-bogey at a time, tRump is working at a fever pitch to tear down our government--our nation--from the inside. He alienates our allies while cozying up to the nastiest dictators. He only hires people who hate the agencies they're not even qualified to understand and turns them loose to happily dismantle those institutions from the inside. He gleefully repeals the health care and regulations that keep us safe. He turns away the legal immigrants and visitors who make us strong in our variety by broadening our perspective on the world. He destroys our current and future technical edge, handing it over to China, by replacing science with religious superstition in the classroom.

We are more fucked than I can even describe...and, yet, here is Macy's...ginning up happy-clappy, feel-good patriotism...manufacturing consent in the sheep being herded into PEWtin's USSA abattoir.

Alas, this 4th of July hardly feels happy--it feels more like a funeral for the America we all knew and loved rather than a celebration of what is.

Heartbreaking...

...but there is hope.

Friends, there are good, intelligent, reasonable, patriotic people on both sides of the aisle fighting tooth and nail to restore our nation to its accustomed greatness--and more.

So, this year, as I mourn for the horrific mess we're in, I feel hopeful that, because there are so many more of us than there are of them, that, even as we lose a battle here and there, we can ultimately win the war to take America back from the oligarchs--Russian and American--and put it squarely back where it belongs: in the hands of Us the People.

Yes, it's doable...but it won't be easy.

We will all have to sacrifice.

As I said last time, we need community organizers to set up a 100% general strike--every single one of us out in the streets, even if (ouch...ugh) we have to give up a day's pay.

Think about it: which would you rather have...one day's pay today, or your nation squarely back in your hands for your and your children' future?

I know, I know...what if we lose our jobs for protesting?

Again, what are our options?

Is it really worth it to keep a job today that PEWtin's USSA will only take away from you tomorrow as tRumPEWtin turns us all into serfs?

What do you really have to lose?

I speak as someone who's close to the edge myself.

I lost my home when DEFLATed Cruz shut down the government...I was out of work for nine months. I managed to sell my house before it got foreclosed on, but I'm still recovering financially. So, I'm not exactly insulated if I were to lose my job again.

And yet I'm willing to put my body into the cogs of the machine because, like I said, what are our options?

I know what you're thinking.

Maybe, if I keep my head down, I can fool myself into thinking I'm safe for today.

Only we'll ultimately find ourselves out of work as the oligarchs take firmer and firmer hold...like when they finally deign to crash the economy, just like they did when chimpie was in the Oval.

Then, just like last time, we'll find ourselves out of a home and out on the street...but, this time, I'll be with my partially-disabled dad and no health care for either of us.

So, again, ask yourself: what do you really have to lose?

And what do you have to gain by NOT letting tRumPEWtin take our country away from us and hand it over to the oligarchs?

The other thing we need community organizers for is to organize us so that we can all volunteer to get every single eligible American registered to vote.

Like I said last time, this is going to include setting up one or more GoFundMe pages so that we can cover the salaries of the working class and poor voters we get registered and help vote.

This way, they won't have to choose between voting to save their own asses tomorrow or putting food on the table today. I sure hope there are enough wealthy Dems--especially in Hollywood--who'd be willing and able to help fund us in this effort so that we who live on the edge won't have to get too pinched trying to help the poor register and vote.

I'm all in, and I hope you are, too. Let's do this...together.

...The "modest proposal" is for blue states to exit red America. This is problematic because there are too many blue individuals stuck in red states for us to abandon. In Dot Calm's Page of Truth & Sedition: Can America survive?, I re-posted a piece written during chimpie's administration: "Our defunct sister blog, a satirical news site named 'The Scallion,' posted an article on Tuesday, March 04, 2003, titled 'Unamerica to Secede from America,' in which the Christo-fascists got to keep 'America' while the rest of us stood up 'Unamerica.'" The idea was for blue American individuals to secede in place. It was satire at the time, but it was, erm, rather telling.

...RVAwonk strikes again with her insightful analysis and commentary on yet another important issue affecting us daily. In this article, Caroline examines the issue of gun violence from the point of view of gun availability. And check out these great YouTube channels:

Peas, friends. Take care of yourselves for me. Trust me--you're worth it! And go have a Fireball and some chocolate while you still can, will ya? Time is short now that the mouth of trump hell has opened...

Boycott List

Boycott media!

Don't bother with these media outlets any more unless you want trump propaganda--these media outlets have whored themselves out to trump for access for the low, low price of "fancy" cocktails and a "fancy" dinner, consisting of Donald's shriveled orange acorn dick, at chump's "fancy" (aka FAKE PLASTIC, just like everything else about trump and his FAKE PLASTIC family) "resort" in Florida. What an upstanding, responsible response to trump's denying press conferences since 27 July 2016...retch. So much for comforting the afflicted, afflicting the comfortable, and speaking truth to power to keep that power reined in and in check...!
  • Axios
  • Bloomberg
  • Breitbart because duh--according to AlterNet, Howard Dean Lends Voice to Consumer Activist Group Hitting Breitbart in the Wallet—And It's Working
  • CNN
  • FOX because of course
  • MSNBC (includes Joe Scarborough, but Rachel Maddow and Chris Hayes may still be OK as long as their corporate overlords allow it)
  • NBC (they also have the reality TV show conflict of interest--and they just hired a couple of FUX Noise escapees, so beware a hard swing to the far, far right)
  • POLITICO--their top editor(s) went and paid to party with trump, so now more and more trump propaganda has been showing up there, to my infinite disgust
Don't forget to contact these media outlets and their ADVERTISERS and TELL them all why you're boycotting them! So what if we spend a little less money overall? The money we save now may give us enough breathing room to jump ship before trump crashes the economy.

Boycott vendors that support trump, sell trump shit, and otherwise pander to hate!

Boycott Victoria's Secret--they kick out shoppers who are guilty of shopping while Black!

Here's a twofer: let's save our money for when dump tanks the economy and grab the trumpussy grabber-in-thief where it hurts most--by his wallet!

Want to boycott trump? There's an app for that!

And here's a list of trump companies.

There's also a spreadsheet of trump supporters and vendors that carry trump merch that includes the vendors below.
Don't forget New Balance, who praised and supported trump: 1 (800) 595-9138.

Here's the list from Mindy Fischer, featuring 28 vendors that sell trump merchandise. BOYCOTT them all and TELL them why!
