Bye, Felicia!

Greetings, fellow Dot Calm Readers, Freedom Fighters, and Truth Crusaders!

Can you tell I'm pissed at the Christo-fascist Republicans?

I thought you could!

It's hard to put a finger on what bothers me most about them...

...their self-righteous excuses to be judgmental?

...their self-righteous excuses to be excessively selfish and greedy?

...their self-righteous excuses to look down their noses at people?

...their self-righteous excuses to blame victims, especially their own victims?

...their self-righteous excuses to abuse people?

...their self-righteous excuses to dictate the most intimate details of other people's lives?

...their self-righteous syrupy-smarmy confidence that they are right and the rest of the world is wrong?

...their pig-headed refusal to acknowledge that someone else, like a trained experienced expert, might know more than they do?

...their refusal to listen to facts?

...their deliberate misunderstanding of science?

...their deliberate misunderstanding of people, including their own loved ones?

...their blatant hypocrisy?

...their moral double standards, in which Christians can do no wrong but no one else--especially O'Bama--can do anything right?

...their tenuous-at-best, dismissive-at-worst relationship with objective reality?

...their eagerness to throw the entire planet under the bus to appease their fantasies of wealth, power, and the favor of their spiritual Santa Claus?

...the clear and present danger they pose to the human race?

I know...

ALL OF THE ABOVE!

This election really drives home exactly what we are up against--exactly what the Christo-fascists would do with us given half a chance. My friends, we cannot let them. They would destroy us all tomorrow for a fistful of greenbacks today, and they wouldn't bat an eyelash. I wish I were exaggerating, but I'm not. This is some serious shit right here.

So...

I feel like America is playing Scheherazade today...by the skin of our teeth, we get to keep our head and live another day. Why? Because Rafael "DEFEATed" Cruz has CAPITULATed. Trump is clearly stupid and crazy, but, as dangerous as he is, Cruz was worse. The worst of the worst is stuck no closer than arm's length away from the White House. Well may I breathe a sigh of relief!

Na na na na
na na na na
hey, hey, hey
GOODBYE!

The worst part about the #nevertrump Republicans is that they're NOT opposed to Trump's bigotry--oh no, they're all perfectly happy with that. They were all perfectly fine supporting Cruz, who's even more BIGOTed. Trump and Cruz are merely the symptoms of what this country has become.

...And, whatever you do,
VOTE BERNIE!!!!!

Please send him a buck o' five, even if just to congratulate him for winning Indiana (w00t!). Think of it as a comparatively inexpensive investment in saving the planet. Even if or when Hillary wins the nomination, we must not let Bernie's revolution--his fanfare for the common man--fade into oblivion. It is up to us to drive both parties in this country back toward the center.

One cool thing about a Hillary nomination is that Dot Calm would have been super chuffed. With her longer perspective on history than mine, Dot was able to peer forward by looking backward and spotting all the patterns and periodicities. If I know Dot Calm as well as I think I do, I strongly suspect that she would have voted for Hillary over Bernie in the primaries. Dot thought the world of Hillary.

Don't forget to be good to yourselves and your loved ones.

As for me, I'm having to hustle on posting the blog this evening because I've spent every moment since I got home unskrooing a very nasty pooch--one of my parents, who shall remain nameless, called the scammers who set up the fake virus ransomware pop-up window on the computer and gave them enough information to steal an identity. They didn't waste a moment charging the credit card for nearly $200. I'm telling you because I want you to protect yourselves: if you have elderly friends or relations, you may not want to let them surf the web unsupervised. If you trust them to do that, then at least make yourself an admin account and set up an admin password so that neither they nor scammers can install software--e.g., malware--without your knowledge.

Remember, my parent thought the scammers were technicians. My parent thought they were helping--saving me some trouble. My parent did not realize what these people can do once they remote into your machine. They can tell you they are backing up your files for you when they're really downloading them to harvest your personal information. And they can install some very nasty ransomware, which you will hate.

The scammers' number is 877-522-9914. Google it to see what these bastards are up to, and Google ransomware if you're not familiar with it. That's some nasty shit right there. If it weren't for my admin password, my parent, who shall remain nameless, would have turned a third computer into a boat anchor--meaning that two previous computers were killed by malware before I stepped in and anointed myself sysadmin. Needless to say, I've turned off the surviving machine's web access...permanently.

Ya think I'll get to change out of my work clothes and maybe get a little dinner before bed tonight?

...Nah.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for being you.

The water crisis in Flint, Michigan has been a major wake-up call. It exposed the dangers that outdated infrastructure and failed state oversight pose to the safety of our drinking water.

Unfortunately, what happened in Flint could still happen in communities across the nation.

That’s why I’ve co-sponsored a plan to invest in our crumbling infrastructure by strengthening EPA protections, accelerating the testing and deployment of new water technologies, and requiring that our public drinking water systems be outfitted with 100% American-made iron and steel.

Not only would this ensure the water that comes from our faucets is clean, it would create jobs in Wisconsin and across the country. Add your name and demand that Congress prioritize the safety of our drinking water.

Access to safe drinking water is a necessity. Families shouldn’t fear for their health every time they turn on the faucet. However, in Wisconsin alone, a report found that 420 of our municipal water systems that serve about 92,290 people had unsafe levels of bacteria.

Unless we take action to remove lead from our pipes and invest in modern water technology that prevents and detects contaminants, more communities will be at risk for consuming unsafe drinking water.

It’s time to confront our water problems by creating a modern, made-in-America system that keeps our families safe and healthy.

The government has a responsibility to make sure our water is safe. This is a basic protection families depend on. Join me and tell Congress to take action.

Thank you,

Tammy

From Change.org: police brutality must stop!

My name is Sandra Williams, and I am an Ohio State Senator and lifelong Cleveland resident. Last December, I was heartbroken to hear about the non-indictment decision in the case of the Cleveland Police shooting of twelve year old Tamir Rice. The tragedy of the Tamir Rice incident and a few other similar incidents in my great state of Ohio struck a chord with me and the public concerning police use of force and the process in-which these incidents are reviewed. Now, I’ve introduced legislation that will allow for a more open indictment process, through probable cause hearings, removing the limitations placed on grand jury hearings, allowing for a more public indictment process in these unique cases of significant public interest.
Currently, the grand jury remains the only indicting force in the state of Ohio, but the grand jury system has come under criticism in recent years for its lack of transparency. Since the non-indictments of the police officers involved in the deaths of John Crawford and Tamir Rice, communities all across Ohio are urging policymakers to get rid of this closed door system. This petition will communicate to respective policymakers that reform in the grand jury process must take place.
Recently, not only has the public discussion of the grand jury process shifted to how to reform the process in the General Assembly, but the reform discussion is being had in the Ohio Constitutional Modernization Commission, and with the creation of the Task Force to Examine Improvements to the Ohio Grand Jury System by Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor.
A national discussion is taking place about how effective grand juries are at getting justice for people impacted by police use of force, and Ohio should be a leader in this space. California already banned the grand jury system last year and a chief judge in New York has introduced similar reforms following the Eric Garner non-indictment decision.
The need for reform continues to gain further traction as the limitations of the process are brought to light-- especially in law enforcement lethal force cases. The community will no longer accept this closed-door process as the only way to bring forth an indictment in Ohio. Sign this petition to urge my fellow policymakers to reform the grand jury system of Ohio.

From Daily Kos: elect Democrats, not just for the White House

Donald Trump has sewn up the Republican nomination, and polls show that he is poison for Republicans up and down the ticket. Now is time to expand the map.

Missouri's Senate race is the sleeper campaign of 2016. It's the sort of race that shouldn't be competitive, but a rock star Democratic candidate and a toxic Republican ticket have come together to put it on the map.

Democrat Jason Kander can win Missouri and, with it, a Democratic Senate majority.

Beating Trump and electing a Democratic Senate is Daily Kos' top priority this year. The Supreme Court is on the line in this election and Senate Republicans have shown this year that they will do anything to keep a Democratic president from naming the next Supreme Court justice—even if it means blockading a nominee for an entire year.

The only way to break the Republican blockade is to elect a Democratic Senate, and a Trump nomination makes a slew of new races competitive.

Keep fighting,
Michael Langenmayr, Daily Kos

From CPD Action: universal voter registration--why? Because Republicans are deliberately disenfranchising Democrats!

Last week, Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint revealed in a radio interview the real reason that some states have passed restrictive voter ID laws: they help elect conservative Republicans to office.

Voting rights activists have long known that the proliferation of voter ID laws threatens our democracy by disenfranchising low-income workers, young people, and communities of color. But DeMint’s stunning admission that voter ID laws rig the rules in favor of conservatives flies in the face of the typical GOP argument that voter ID is designed to prevent the non-existent problem of voter fraud.

Stand up against right-wing voter disenfranchisement. Sign our petition for Automatic Voter Registration now.

Voting shouldn’t be a partisan issue. Each and every citizen should have the opportunity and ability to take part in our democracy and have their voices heard in elections. But over the past few decades, Republicans have fought to roll back millions of Americans’ voting rights by putting undue burdens on registration and voting in moves that harken back to a darker era of Jim Crow poll taxes and literacy tests.

DeMint, a former right-wing Senator from South Carolina and Tea Party leader, said the GOP is working to pass voter ID laws “because in the states where they do have voter ID laws you’ve seen, actually, elections begin to change towards more conservative candidates.”¹

In a growing number of states, people are fighting back. Just this spring, Virginia and Maryland have restored the right to vote for people disenfranchised because of prior felony convictions. And just yesterday, Vermont made its elections more inclusive and representative by passing Automatic Voter Registration, which automatically registers eligible residents and eases the path to voting.

We must stand up and fight back against these cynical attacks on our democracy — sign our petition to show your support for Automatic Voter Registration now.

In Solidarity,

Emma Greenman
Director of Voting Rights and Democracy
