BREAKING: Texas Abortion Restrictions Declared Unconstitutional

Dot,

This is good news.

A major provision of the law that had Wendy Davis standing up for 13 hours was just declared unconstitutional.

But the good news might not last.

Because the GOP already plans to file an emergency appeal to the ruling.

It's clear that this decision won't stop them from trying to legislate women's bodies.

Thankfully, Democratic women governors will.

Women like Wendy Davis in Texas, Mary Burke in Wisconsin, and Allyson Schwartz in Pennsylvania.

They will be the last line of defense against attacks on women's reproductive rights--attacks that have been proven unconstitutional.

This is exactly why we are fighting so hard to put these women and many more in governors' mansions across the country.

We are still 4,000 donations away from our October goal--we only have until midnight Thursday to make this happen.

Donate right now to make sure Wendy, Mary, Allyson, and the rest of our amazing women can keep fighting for us as long as it takes.

All the best,

Hey! North Carolina

The GOP is Stealing Elections Through Gerrymandering.

The Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) has an agenda.

It has been costly but its goal is simple: Get more congressional seats without actually winning them.

This wildly undemocratic goal has been successfully pursued in seven states: Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Virginia, Florida, and Ohio.

As stated on the homepage for the RSLC, redistricting is an important process after a census, should the distribution of the population within a state change dramatically over the ten-year period between surveys.

In this way it is ensured that people are well represented and the political playing field is leveled.

Unfortunately (or fortunately if you're a Republican House member elected in 2012) districts can be so creatively redrawn that one party is placed on the losing side of every election.

This is what the RSLC had in mind with its two-step REDMAP plan.

Step 1: Take over state legislatures before the decennial census.

Step 2: Revamp state and Congressional districts to maintain the newly gained numerical advantage.

 Dear Dot,

The extreme demands from the Tea Party faction in Congress just keep on rolling in.

First they shut down our government in an attempt to strip millions of Americans of their access to affordable health care.

Now they're offering to make concessions on easing the painful sequestration cuts--but only if we make concessions on Social Security and Medicare.

That's a bad deal for the middle class.

It won’t happen as long as I have a say.

For millions of Americans Social Security means economic security.

Whether you're a senior who counts on Social Security to buy groceries, or a disabled American who counts on your monthly check--the promise of Social Security is there for you when you need it.

There is a group of Tea Party Republicans in Congress who think they can force changes to Social Security in the upcoming budget negotiations.

But Social Security is not a bargaining chip.

It is a guarantee.

And I will not stand by and let out-of-touch partisans use Social Security as another political football.
