Hate is winning
Friends, I've been watching Fivethirtyeight and CBS all evening, and it's down to five battleground states, most of which have Trump in the lead. Pennsylvania is counting its absentee ballots, most of which are from Philadelphia...but whether or not those will be enough to cancel out Trump's lead of around 60,000 votes is anybody's guess. Whoops--since I started typing this, the AP has called Pennsylvania and Alaska for Trump...which means, according to fivethirtyeight, that the AP has called the presidency for Trump.
I have a day job, and I just can't stay up any more--the last trickling in of vote counts could go on all night, and I've already been burning the candle at both ends thanks to demands at home and grueling deadlines at work.
All I keep thinking about are the implications of a Trump victory. Poor Hillary--what a horrible buffoon for her to lose to. Poor Obama--what a slap in the face after everything he's done. Poor us--we will have become the laughingstock of the entire world, and our lives are about to get a whole lot worse. We will have succeeded in cutting off our noses to spite our faces. We will have handed over the most powerful government post in the world to an inexperienced, unqualified, incompetent, unabashed anarchist dictator-wannabe who hates government and who hates people...a man who thinks only of and helps only himself at the expense of everyone around him.
We are his marks, and we are about to get fleeced like we've never been fleeced before.
The Republicans have already fallen in line--why think they'd try to stop him now?
All of his supporters either accept or ignore his heinous flaws and failings--so many are so susceptible to wish thinking that it hasn't mattered yet what he says or does, so who thinks they'll give a shit what he does in office? He could literally shoot someone in front of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and still not lose one supporter. He is their golden boy, and, since they are all so divorced from reality, their golden boy he will remain--no matter what he says or does and no matter how dire the consequences to his supporters and the rest of us. He could rob them blind, and they will all be cheering about how rich he has made them all and how much better their lives are with him in office.
A nation divided will remain divided: Trump wants revenge, and his supporters want revenge.
There will be no calls for unity after this election if he wins. There will only be retribution against those who Trump feels have crossed him. Like his campaign promise to sue all the women who accused him of sexual assault.
He will curtail the first amendment and shut down our media, replacing it with TrumpTV--a rebranded Breitbart-Infowars state propaganda machine. Cold War Soviet Russia will have nothing on us.
With a fully Republican-controlled House and Senate, we can look forward to the Supreme Court being stacked chock-full with Scalia clones.
Republicans will have been rewarded handsomely for their vindictiveness and obstructionism against Obama when they should have been kicked out on their asses for not doing their jobs.
I can think of many, many more frankly horrible implications, but I'm battling exhaustion, and, like I keep saying, I have a day job. I'm supporting family and cannot risk losing this job, so I must abridge for now.
Friends, this is looking like such a sad day for our nation and for the world.
I am so heartbroken that hate will have won.
Michael Moore said he wouldn't give up or skip the country if Trump won--he said he'd stick around and fight like hell. Folks, I guess I will, too, even if I am getting too old for this shit.
Take care and be well--somehow, we are going to get through this and come out stronger than before. I wonder how long it will take before the country sees what a hot mess Donald LOSER Trump is. Do you think there's any chance that the magical thinkers will wake up and smell the scalding hot coffee when it's being spilled on their laps?
