My Favorite Thing
There is so much to dislike about Bush and his evil twin, Cheney (pronounced Cheney). One can choose from a plethora of issues that hurt our fellow Americans. The debauchery, the lying, the blatant thievery. We each have a favorite. Here’s mine.
It didn’t take a rocket scientist to realize what was responsible for the sickening feeling in the pit of my stomach.
This can’t be a good idea, I thought, as Bush, in his folksy, Texas twang, stuck it to so many unsuspecting, unsophisticated American people.
“If you put your mind to it, the first-time home buyer, the low-income home buyer can have just as nice a house as anybody else,” he said.
Really?
And, with that simple, searing statement, those “first time” home buyers were like kids in a candy store. They went shopping for the American dream...a home of their own.
Qualify? Nah...no need for that silly detail. Buy! Buy!
Happy Days were here...again.
New homes got built. New furniture got bought. New lawns got laid.
Everything was perking along like a fresh, delicious brew.
Then the black cloud of trouble began creeping in. It was slow at first, the black cloud of reality, and it wasn’t pretty.
The "suckers" too soon realized they couldn't afford these beautiful, top-of-the-line homes with their circular staircases, hardwood floors, stainless steel appliances, and picturesque settings. They couldn't even afford the monthly mortgage payments. And, they were pissed!
Many of these families crept away in the dark of night clutching their babies and little else than the clothes on their backs.
As they left many of them vandalized what they could using black spray paint and hammers to the walls and new hardwood floors.
By morning signs screaming bankrupt and foreclosure popped up everywhere. They were rampant. Every third house was vacant with a sign on the perfectly manicured lawn.
The imposters were long gone.
Take a walk, losers! We got all we can get from you!
We’ve bled you dry, sucker. It was as easy as squeezing nectar from a peach.
Yeah, it was that easy.
So little time...so many suckers.
