Some Americans don’t know if they have a gun in the house or not. Really? Why not take inventory and see if a gun shows up? Then there are the Dick Cheneys who shoot a hunting partner in the face. That’s not an oopsy daisy. Just for not observing gun safety rules, Cheney could have killed someone. Of course, if one happens to be running the free world at the time, he gets a pass. The father of one of the angels killed in the Sandy Hook massacre asked why we need assault weapons in our country. An assault weapon has only one purpose...and that’s to kill large numbers of people. He was shouted down by gun owners.

In December, 2011, the survey firm YouGov interviewed 45,000 Americans and asked whether they or someone in their household owned a gun and whether they were members of the NRA.  About 22 percent of the sample reported owning a gun, 13 percent said that someone else in their household owned a gun, and 59 percent reported not owning a gun.  The remaining 6 percent were not sure.  Thus, about 35 percent of Americans had a gun in their house—a number, incidentally, much lower than in an October, 2011 Gallup poll but more in line with data from the General Social Survey.

Now, here’s the problem as I see it. A full six percent don’t know? What exactly don’t they know?
