President Barack Obama is trying to use a proposed U.N. treaty on the arms trade as a backdoor method to take away Americans’ freedom to own guns, actor Chuck Norris says.

Chuck Norris, Obama, guns, treaty--In an opinion piece Wednesday for Politico, the martial arts expert and star of “Walker, Texas Ranger” says the draft U.N. Arms Trade Treaty would play into what he calls the Obama administration’s “secretive itch for gun control.”

The treaty would do far more than limit the sale of fighter jets, tanks and heavy artillery, he said.

“Look no further than the U.N. plaza to see what the silk-stocking set considers ‘arms.’ There you will find a bronze statue of a simple .38 revolver–with its barrel tied into a knot,” Norris wrote.

“Remember, no other country in the world enjoys America’s constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

Yay! Are we lucky or wha? Oh, sorry, Gaby...You
shudda ducked!

This is why the vast majority of U.N. diplomats believe that an arms trade treaty must reach into your gun safe and mine,” he said.

The National Rifle Association has been marshaling opposition in Congress to the treaty, said Norris, who is honorary chairman of the gun lobby’s Trigger the Vote registration campaign.

Almost 60 senators, led by Republican Jerry Moran of Kansas and Democrat Jon Tester of Montana, have written to President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to make clear they “have vowed to oppose any treaty that restricts civilian firearm ownership.”

The fact that 13 Democrats endorsed the letter is "a sign that this debate is far from over,” Norris wrote.
