SNAP Benefits Will Be Cut for All
Participants in November 2013

By Stacy Dean and Dottie Rosenbaum

The 2009 Recovery Act’s temporary boost to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits is scheduled to end on November 1, 2013, resulting in a benefit cut for every SNAP household.

However, the hunger index remained unchanged.

For families of three, the cut will be $29 a month—a total of $319 for November 2013 through September 2014, the remaining months of fiscal year 2014.

That’s a serious loss, especially in light of the very low amount of basic SNAP benefits.

Without the Recovery Act’s boost, SNAP benefits will average less than $1.40 per person per meal in 2014.

Nationally, the total cut is estimated to be $5 billion in fiscal year 2014.

Adjust your hunger accordingly.

It seems unlikely that Congress will enact legislation to remedy this problem, as President Obama and some members of Congress have proposed.

You go, Congress...Let 'em eat cake...No icing, of course...too espensive.

Consequently, states need to prepare for the benefit cuts—including determining how they will provide information about the upcoming benefit reduction to participating households and other stakeholders as well as how to manage increased client inquiries when the cut takes effect

No need to prepare...you're freaken hungry...end of story! .

And now for today's shooting...

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla.—A disgruntled former barbershop employee was shot when he showed up at the east Orange County shop looking for trouble Saturday evening, deputies told WFTV.

Officials said more than a dozen deputies and emergency rescue crews responded to the One Cut Barber Shop near Colonial Drive and Dean Road just after 6:00 p.m. Saturday.

Investigators told WFTV the former employee came to the barbershop looking for the owner and armed with a gun.

While in the shop, the suspect pulled out the gun and threatened an employee with it, deputies said.

The man then ran out the back door and came around to the front, leading to the exchange in gunfire.

"The gunfire erupted in front of the store,” Capt. Angelo Nieves of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said, “because one of the employees inside the store did have a firearm, he defended himself and the customers inside the store."

Authorities said the suspect sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was hit by a car when he attempted to flee onto Colonial Drive.

“The suspect then ran from the business out on Colonial, where he was struck by a vehicle, and at that point dropped his firearm," Nieves said.

He was struck by a vehicle? He didn't look both ways before crossing?

The suspect, who has not been identified, was taken to the hospital and was in surgery as of late Saturday night.

Paid for gratis the taxpayer.

Deputies have not said what condition the man is in.

As he rests comfortably in his private room with TV?

The barbershop is part of a four-shop strip, which also includes a massage parlor, a tattoo shop and a Goodyear Auto Center.

Coming soon: a gun shop.

Officials said a bullet hit a passing car, but no one in the vehicle was hurt.

Never mind seat belts...how about helmets and bullet-proof vests!

The shooting remains under investigation, deputies said.

Hey LaPierre...no notch in your belt this time. Disappointed?
