Like Granny D, I have watched my own beloved country change, and I am angry beyond words about what I see. I grew up seeing America as the equivalent of the movie good guy, the hero in the white hat who came to the rescue of those in need around the world. I have watched in silent horror as the corporations, the captains and the kings of industry, used a comparatively small outlay of cash to buy the Republicans to use as their shills. George W. Bush is the puppet cowboy-king of shills, the proverbial emperor with no clothes. Every day, I watch these evil men legalize, legitimize, and institutionalize robbing the poor to pay the rich. They are carving up America like a giant carcass and doling out choice chunks of its meat to themselves and their cronies. Since the Democrats have been sipping at the same corporate teat where the Republicans have been gorging for the past generation, the fascists are free to do their worst; there is no longer any opposition. There is no one left to stand up for the rights of the American people, the Constitution, or the democracy, which I fear will be replaced by a fascist dictatorship in my lifetime. Wake up, America: we need a REVOLUTION NOW!
Greetings, fellow Dot Calm Readers, Freedom Fighters, and Truth Crusaders!
Just like last time, I'm living on borrowed time and using a borrowed computer. Hunh. Whaddayagonnadew?
It's been a long day, and I don't have a lot in the tank to write an intro for today's post. Hunh again. Whaddayagonnadew again?
Let me just summarize the key points I made last time and add a few for shits and giggles...I'm pooped, so I'll be brief:
1. Trump is a tremendous threat to world peace and security, which makes him a tremendous threat to our peace and security. How many more unnecessary wars do we really need?
2. Pence is an evangelical right-wing ideologue. Between his voting record and Trump's being beholden at least to some degree to the Republicans because he's running as a one, you can kiss goodbye the last eight years of social justice gains--gains for women, Blacks, LGBTQ, and other non-white non-rich non-white non-male non-Christians. Is the Trump-Pence ticket really the sort of bigotry we as a nation want to be identified with? Do we really want to see Muslim internment camps like we caged American-born Japanese in in WWII?
3. Merrick Garland's seat plus probably Ruth Bader Ginsburg's SCOTUS seats will be in play over the next four years. Do we really want Ted Cruz and his ilk as SCOTUS justices for the next generation?
4. Trump has a proven track record of hiring poor employees--not the best employees--and he has a proven track record of screwing over the people who work with and for him as well as those unfortunate enough to buy whatever dreck he's selling. Just look at his business record, like TrumPEW and his four bankruptcies. Is gross mismanagement really what we want to throw at this nation's problems--are we really that suicidal?
5. Trump has flip-flopped on every issue under the sun--whatever it takes to get what he wants, like the nomination. Nobody knows what Trump really stands for except Donald J. Trump...and his ego the size of three time zones.
And...
6. Bernie's moved the Democratic platform farther to the left than it's been in living memory. If Trump gets in, we kiss up any chance of implementing any of Bernie's hard-won contributions.
7. Hillary is not going to blow up the country or the planet. She will at least give us enough breathing room to regroup and fight another day. We won't have that luxury with Trump. Trump and Pence would deregulate so much so quickly that our heads will spin trying to keep up with all the disasters. We can't fix what no longer exists. Like the planet, which is in desperate trouble due to climate change and pollution.
Please, guys 'n' gals--get out there and VOTE BLUE no matter what! Not just for president but for every seat that's up for grabs. We need to send these Republican fucksicles a loud and clear message NOW!
DON'T Make America Hate Again.
Don't forget to read Dot Calm's shadow's favorite independent sources of news and information:
Republicans are trying to sell Mike Pence as an experienced, polished governor.
Donald Trump's choice of extreme anti-choice, anti-LGBT Gov. Mike Pence could cost him the entire election. Will you chip in $5 to help make sure undecided voters know the truth about his radical anti-choice record?
Dear Friend,
Donald Trump may have just handed Democrats the entire election--if we act fast.
You see, when Trump picked the extreme anti-choice, anti-LGBT
Governor Mike Pence as his running mate, he did because he needed to
appease his party's far-right base.
But even before Pence became his running mate, Trump was losing by double-digits among women and moderate voters.1And
if we can make sure people know the facts about Pence's radically
outside-the-mainstream positions, this could be the final straw that
ends any chance that Trump wins in November.
In just a few hours, Donald Trump is going to accept the Republican Party's presidential nomination.
Let me say this about Donald Trump: he has made it very clear that
he'll say anything to get publicity, and to get elected. And the truth
is, it is a very dangerous thing for the President of the United
States -- the nation's Commander in Chief, to not stand for anything.
Dear Friend, Well, it's official: Donald Trump just accepted the Republican presidential nomination.
Tonight, Trump opened his acceptance speech by saying, "We will be a country of generosity and warmth." But Trump has said a lot of things about women—and none of them convey generosity, warmth or anything remotely close.
He said there should be "some form of punishment" for women who choose abortion.
He said Planned Parenthood "is like an abortion factory, frankly."
He's said of women, "You gotta treat 'em like shit."
And, of course, he's called women "bimbos," "dogs," and "pigs."
Trump has made it clear that he’s unfit to be president of the United
States. He doesn't have the temperament, values or good judgment to
lead this country—he's a vulgar bully, and we cannot vote for someone so
wrong for America's future.
It's not complicated. No matter where your politics lie, say you won't vote for Donald Trump in November. Make it official and sign on right now.
Thank you for all you do for reproductive freedom, and for helping us
keep Donald Trump as far away from the White House as possible.
Dear MoveOn member,
Donald Trump just accepted the Republican presidential nomination.
There is no going back. He’s the nominee—just one step away from being
president of the United States—and we have to do everything in our power
to stop him.
The reality is this: Trump was surging in the polls BEFORE the convention.1 And former New York Times
data wizard Nate Silver—who picked every single state with 100%
accuracy in 2012—is estimating that this week, the Republican National
Convention (even as crazy as it's been), could give Trump a 4 point
gain in the polls.2That’s enough to put Trump in the lead against Hilary Clinton.
We're running an emergency campaign to counter the bounce Trump is expected to get from his speech. Will you send an urgent contribution now to help our team mobilize in swing states to counter any bounce Trump gets from tonight’s speech?
The next few days are going to be critical. Trump’s campaign will be
ramping up, and with the Democratic National Convention happening next
week, we cannot afford to become complacent. Stopping Trump will take
all of us—including independent organizations like MoveOn. With your
help, we will:
Use social media to educate voters about what's at stake, with videos that will be seen tens of millions of times. We're on track to reach an audience equivalent to that of a cable news TV show, without a dime of corporate advertising.
Launch door-to-door volunteer canvasses using in-person conversations,
which are proven to be one of the most effective ways to get out the
vote and swing elections. We've just finished our proof-of-concept
canvass in Ohio, and we're gearing up to roll it out in 10 key states.
Get MoveOn spokespeople on TV—to reach millions of
Americans about just how just much is at stake. We've been interviewed
by TV stations multiple times outside of the Republican National
Convention this week, but we need your help to invest more in media
pitching, training, and staffing, so that we can get in front of voters
from now through Election Day with the messaging that our research and
polling have shown can mobilize key voters who could decide the
election.
Because of our work together, the
Republican National Convention (RNC) has fallen millions of dollars
short of funding Trump’s coronation!1 I'm here in Cleveland at the convention, and the impact of our campaign is clear - this convention is a disaster for the GOP!
Together we pressured two dozen major
corporations to dump Trump and the RNC! These companies made a clear
statement that they will not provide Trump’s party support, cover, or
amplification for his campaign of hate. This game-changing win
was only possible because more than 200,000 members like you took action
by signing petitions and making phone calls to companies like Microsoft
and Amazon.
With the RNC’s unprecedented financial
shortfall - caused by members like you - the GOP will be forced to
divert millions of dollars from their campaign war chest to the
convention; funds that would’ve been used to help elect Trump
and other GOP candidates running on anti-Black policies and messages of
racism. We still have a long way to go to stop Trump’s and the
GOP’s racist agendas, but winning this campaign made a big dent in their
wallets!
To executives of CNN, CBS, NBC, ABC, the New York Times, the Los
Angeles Times, the Washington Post, and the Wall Street Journal: "Reassess your coverage policies around incidents of police
killings, and stop victim-blaming practices by ceasing to cover
unrelated past criminal history of victims and ceasing to use old and
unrelated mugshots for victims of police violence."
The following sponsored email was sent to you by AlterNet on behalf of Tammy Duckworth for Senate:
Dear Friend,
The Republican National Convention is happening now. We’re not sure
what Donald Trump is going to say but we’ve already heard enough of his
sexist, racist and xenophobic rhetoric to know that Donald Trump and the
Republican Party do not represent the views of most middle-class
Americans.
Now more than ever it is crucial that we take back the majority and
build a Democratic firewall in the U.S. Senate – we must take every red
seat that we can and flip it blue.
Illinois is the place to start. The Washington Post has called
Illinois the "#1 most competitive Senate race in 2016". This race is
Democrats' best chance in the country to turn a Republican Senate seat
blue in November. Will
you add your name to help Tammy Duckworth defeat Mark Kirk, the most
vulnerable GOP senator and put Democrats on the path toward turning the
Senate blue?
Middle-class families need a leader like Tammy Duckworth who will
fight for people like them and speak out against Donald Trump’s hateful
fearmongering.
Tammy will stand up for working families and won't be beholden to
corporate interests and billionaires. She'll fight to help our students
by making college more affordable. Tammy is a Veteran who is dedicated
to protecting the honor of those who sacrifice for our country every
day.
Tammy Duckworth is the type of leader America needs in the Senate and
will help build a Democratic firewall in the Senate come November. But
she needs your support in order to do so. Join
our grassroots campaign to help Tammy defeat Republican incumbent Mark
Kirk and turn the Senate blue. Add your name to stand with her.
Thank you for helping Tammy take back the Democratic Senate majority,
Tell Rupert, James, and Lachlan Murdoch — top executives of 21st Century Fox: “Roger Ailes has, allegedly, sexually harassed multiple women
working at Fox News. You must fire him immediately, without a golden
parachute that would reward his behavior. You must also immediately
launch an independent public review, not only of Ailes’ behavior, but of
sexual harassment at Fox News, and implement reforms to make Fox News a
safe place for women to work, both on and off the air.”
