I've been spending my energies on my volunteer work and on trying to create an escape hatch for my dad and me to skip the country.

The latter is looking more and more imperative with each passing day--Net Neutrality is on the chopping block, and FUX Noise is giving Congress cover to ignore the findings of the Mueller investigation, or to let tRUmp fire Mueller, by delegitimizing Mueller and the FBI.

We're living in dangerous times, friends...dangerous times.

Alas, I can't afford us a house in Vancouver, B.C., so Costa Rica it is. What a fucking shame that people like me--patriots with functioning hearts and brains--have to plan seriously to expatriate for the sake of saving our loved ones' lives...not to mention our own sanity.

2 December update:

Well, friends, it's official--the GOP passed their heinous, vicious, murderous Senate tax bill, all 479 exed out, scribbled on, marked-up, illegible pages of it
--at 1:50 this morning. 51-49.

And NO ONE has read it.

We do know that it repeals Obamacare, establishes "personhood" at the "moment" of conception (which doesn't exist--it's a stage), gives tax breaks for private jets, eliminates teachers' tax deductions for buying supplies, guts Medicare and Medicaid, and explodes the deficit by ~$1.5 trillion according to the most optimistic report--which Paul Ryan intends to use as an "excuse" to repeal Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. The bill was intended to give money to Betsy DeVos's school--which is ineligible for federal funds because it discriminates and which doesn't need it because it's already endowed with over $250,000 per student--but the GOP struck that special interest hand-out when Democrats embarrassed them over its ridiculousness. That seems to have been the only concession to decency that the GOP made.

I'm betting the House will sign it as is, as quickly as possible, both to minimize the opportunity for opposition and because there's so much hate, destruction, and filth in there that they won't be able to resist it.

Like starving vultures on carrion.

Now we know that the GOP is cruel enough to gas us all...but they'd rather kill us this way because it's so much slower and more painful, and they enjoy watching us suffer.

If you ever had any doubt that the GOP was pure fascist and pure evil, now you know for sure.

McCain and Flake, who could have used their respective exits from Congress as a show of force against the corruption in the GOP, showed they're no better than the rest of them.

And not one iota of any of it had thing one to do with Putin's cock holster--it was all GOP, from TURDleman McConnell all the way down.

How much you wanna bet they won't even let us vote in 2018?

My god, I'm going to have to get my dad and me out of here before they tank the economy--which this tax bill surely will--and trap us here.

This is a grim day for our nation, friends, when one party denies the sitting president his appointments to the Supreme Court and other judicial seats...conspires with Russia to install a mentally deficient, mentally ill madman in the Oval Office, backing that madman to the hilt...and completely overturns the legislative process to empty OUR treasury into the pockets of the already-rich, hobbling our ability to educate ourselves, robbing us of our health care and the means to educate new doctors and nurses, reducing women to incubators, and ensuring that tens of millions of us will die.

Now are they going to install tRUmp as lifetime king to be succeeded by his equally evil, stupid, and heartless spawn?

Is there anything they're not capable of?

I hope fucking Susan Sarandon fucking chokes on her fucking tax cut.

Meanwhile, since no one has actually read the bill, let's tell all the Republicans in Congress that the bill agrees to reinstate Ike's 90% top tax bracket but on ALL income--they can't say it doesn't!

And the minute that Democrats retake power--assuming the GOP actually lets us hold elections--let's kill Citizens United and reinstate that 90% tax rate retroactively to the moment that this scam of a bill takes effect. Hobble the uber rich so they can never pull this shit again, and put OUR money that they stole back to work for The People to restore the middle and lower classes in progressive policies.

And if the GOP fucks with our elections?

Then Resist becomes REVOLT.

Despite hours of wrangling this evening, the senate failed to vote on their vicious, murderous tax bill--even though the Gropey Oligarch Putinists from McCain to Collins to Murkowski were lined up and champing at the bit to sell us out.

So, like Scheherazade's head, we get to live another day, and, for this, we must perforce be grateful.

But our reprieve is brutally brief--at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow, the GOP again will meet to plot our demise in their genocide...their human sacrifice of all of us to appease the few filthy rich.

So CALL CALL CALL CALL like never before. Jam up their voice mailboxes. Give your senators a piece of your mind since they apparently have none of their own. And e-mail the rest of the bastards so that you don't clog the phone lines for other senators' constituents to call.

GIVE THE BASTARDS HELL!!!!!

Friends, we have TODAY ONLY to call and e-mail the bastards and beg them yet again not to kill us.

Our money isn't enough for them--now, they want our blood.

Last night, I e-mailed the short list plus a few with a personal letter describing how the vicious tax bill will affect my friends and family. Just now, I e-mailed every Republican senator along with DINOs Joe Manchin (WVa) and Heidi Heitkamp (ND) a shorter message:

How can you sit there and tell us that graduate students and teachers have too much but rich millionaires and billionaires have too little?

Why do you want to decimate America's population of doctors, nurses, teachers, engineers, scientists, and all professionals who need college and graduate school to do what they do?

Talk about handing our technical edge to the Chinese on a silver platter--we as a nation also stand to lose the ability to educate ourselves and provide medical care for ourselves.

Why do you want do destroy America?

With copy/paste and auto-fill for web forms, it took me one hour.

As soon as I click "publish," I'm off to call my senators, both of whom are democrats.

Friends, I have neither the time nor the energy to write much today.

Here's where we stand:

1. North Korea launched an intercontinental ballistic missile today. There are rumors on Twitter that John Kelly was summoned to the White House for a meeting tonight. Tweep Tea Pain observed that, since the Joint Chiefs do not also seem to have been called in, it is probably a staffing issue rather than the start of war. But that seems to be how close we are. Nobody needs war more than a politician who's down in the polls--remember the chimp's invasion of Iraq? And yet even the chimp had more sentience regarding the suffering of others than the orange loofa faced shitgibbon does. I don't think any of us who have been following the news believe that the orange shitgibbon would not kill millions to save himself. I have no doubt that he'd gladly nuke the planet--even his sweet little Ivanka--if he could guarantee that he'd be the last man standing. So fuck Susan Sarandon, who convinced herself and her followers that Hillary was the war-monger. I guarantee that Hillary would never have dragged us into a nuclear war, let alone a war solely to save her ego.

2. tRUmp has been appointing judges at lightning speed to fill all the Obama-era vacancies engineered to remain unfilled by TURDleman McConnell. The Gropey Oligarch Putinists have been approving every nomination almost before they get them. Friends, these are lifetime appointments that will damage our democracy for decades to come. It's crap like this that makes me wonder whether America will ever recover from this evil blight. And the bastards' efforts are already bearing fruit: a tRUmp-appointed federal judge has already ruled that consumer-hating Mick Mulvaney can remain as head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau--which he hates, loathes, and abhors--instead of Leandra English, who is the rightful, lawful director. Stacking the nation with tRUmp-GOP judges means the end of the rule of law in America--a terrifying concept. So fuck Susan Sarandon for helping inflict the end of America as we know it upon us--including if not especially the millions upon millions of us who are not insulated by vast wealth from the carnage that tRUmp and the GOP intend to wreak upon us all.

3. Net Neutrality is under attack. If FCC chairman Ajit Pai and the GOP get their way, the Internet as we now know it will cease to exist. If your provider owns Yahoo!, you could be charged more money just to use Google. Your provider could decide to slow down or deny access to applications that don't support the company's corporate agenda. You could lose access to Democratic and progressive voices completely and be left with nothing but FUX Noise, Breitbart, Infowars, and tRUmp TV. Pai, who worked for and remains in the pocket of Verizon, could shut down Twitter entirely or blackmail Twitter into verifying, amplifying, and prioritizing only white supremacists. Think of the worst that could happen...think about the worst aspects of cable monopolies in this country, like exorbitant fees for crappy service...and then realize that what Pai has in store for us all is infinitely worse. So fuck Susan Sarandon for helping the GOP steal the Internet we paid for with our tax dollars and delivering it on a silver platter to the corporations who profit from oppressing us all and denying us information.

4. The vicious, murderous GOP tax bill has passed not only the House but also the Senate Budget Committee. This means that Republicans can pass it with a simple majority of 51 votes in the Senate. We may get a reprieve from Senators Collins, McCain, Flake, Corker, Murkowski, Moran, Johnson, Daines, Sasse, Portman, and Heller, but only if we all CALL CALL CALL CALL like our lives depend on it BECAUSE THEY DO. So fuck Susan Sarandon for threatening to kill tens of millions of us by depriving us of health care and banishing us into poverty as everything costs more and the GOP strips us of our precious few tax deductions to give them to the rich. Oh, and fuck Susan Sarandon for threatening to obliterate higher education--and thus research and innovation--by taxing not only stipends as Reagan did but also the value of tuition reimbursements, like the ones that put me through master's and doctoral school. Thanks to Susan Sarandon and everyone else who saw what tRUmp was but just couldn't bring themselves to vote for Hillary, the GOP may deny higher education to all but the rich--and we all know what a shitty track record the rich have for altruism.

I know that Susan Sarandon and those who voted like her realize that they voted to destroy the planet by accelerating global warming, but I wonder if Susan Sarandon and those who voted like her realize that they voted to establish hereditary oligarchy--immense wealth pass down from one generation to the next without giving civil society its due. I wonder if Susan Sarandon and those who voted like her realize that they voted to decimate America's population of doctors, nurses, teachers, engineers, scientists, and all professionals who need college and graduate school to do what they do.
