Greetings, fellow Dot Calm Readers, Freedom Fighters, and Truth Crusaders!

I'm going out of town later today and won't be able to put together my usual Friday evening post, so this mini (well, not so mini) post will have to tide you over 'til next time.

That means, unfortunately, that I won't have time to comment on Donald's illegal breaking of the embargo with Cuba...or Alfred Olango's murder by police...or the fact that Donald reminds me of the greedy-ass little girl who turned into a blueberry in "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory" with Gene Wilder.

Harrumph.

Don't forget to read Dot Calm's shadow's favorite independent sources of news and information:

Daily Kos
AlterNet

Peas, friends. Take care of yourselves for me. Trust me--you're worth it! And don't forget to take care of your elderly friends and rellies--little things that seem minor may not be so minor after all, so don't let them neglect their health. Even a little cut or sore that doesn't heal can turn into an infection that requires hospitalization...and it's a lot harder for older people to recover from infections, even with good antibiotics. Be an advocate for someone who needs you today!

Cheers, and have a great weekend...and go have a Fireball on me!

Headlines (it's all Vox this time)

San Diego area police shoot and kill Alfred Olango, who was reportedly unarmed and mentally ill
...Blacks can't even call 911 for help when they need it lest they or their loved ones be shot by police. I've been hearing way too many stories like this lately (not in corporate but independent media).

Donald Trump's history of corruption: a comprehensive review
...ICYMI...I posted the full article last time.

Donald Trump's sycophant problem
...No wonder my Tea Party Christian friend lurves Donald so much--they're cut from the same narcissistic, bullying, reality-denying cloth! Neither one can handle the truth. And I wouldn't give either one the nuclear football!

Donald Trump's experts are basing his trade policy on a remarkably silly mistake
...Give those morons an "F" and send them back to school. Cheez.

Congress just reached a last-minute deal to avoid a government shutdown over Flint lead contamination
...Republicans still aren't doing enough for the Flint victims--nor would I bet money they'll honor the promises they made in this compromise.

4 winners and 3 losers from the last-minute compromise to avoid a government shutdown
...Nice try, Vox, but Flint still isn't really a winner.

A third of the homeless people in America are over 50. I'm one of them.
...This lady made me want to reach through teh Intert00bs and just hug her and bring her inside for a hot meal and a cozy bed. I'll be scraping together whatever cash money I can to help her out. A very dear friend of mine almost ended up in the same situation, so this lady's story hit way too close to home!

All-white Fox News panel: birtherism isn't about race. Political science: yes, it is.
...Derp much?

President Obama wants Colin Kaepernick and his critics to listen to each other. But Kaepernick already does.
...Yeah, yeah...I gno, I gno. O'Bama is Black, so he doesn't want to cut much slack to Blacks lest he be accused of reverse discrimination (or something...it's always something!). But this seems a little dismissive to me--too much of a false equivalency.

Obamacare cut the uninsured rate to an all-time low. Most Americans have no idea.

Watch: Libertarian Nominee Gary Johnson Is Unable To Name A Foreign Leader
...Poor Gary--that's two disqualifying statements (or lack thereof) so far...and on such an easy question. Me, I'll start with Justin Trudeau for $1,000, Alex.

Samantha Bee is fed up with the "perfect but not too perfect" expectations of Hillary Clinton
...Worth reading not only for the serious truth value but also the serious funny. Sam Bee takes the media to task for their superficial and mincing criticisms and expectations of Hillary while shitting themselves in ecstasy whenever Donald doesn't shit himself.

Mailbag

Greetings, friends--Dot Calm's shadow here to encourage you to click on all the questions from Progressive Change Campaign Committee and UltraViolet below and vote for them to be asked during the next debate. It's easy--click, fill out your e-mail and zip code, and vote for that question and, if you like, two related questions. Make your voice heard!

SIREN! The conservative Drudge Report flooded the Open Debates voting process with thousands of right-wing voters. This could skew questions asked in the Oct. 9 presidential debate.

ABC and CNN debate moderators have agreed to receive and consider the top 30 questions on this important voting site.

Will we let questions favoring gun leniency and voter suppression win? Or will we vote up progressive priorities like expanding Social Security benefits and overturning Citizens United? Vote here for...

The Atlantic reports, "The second presidential debate will try something new. Ordinary Americans will be able to submit -- and vote on -- questions to be considered when the candidates meet again."

Voting takes just a few seconds.

Over 600,000 votes have already been cast on 6,000 questions. Add your votes -- or your own questions.

Thanks for being a bold progressive.

-- Keith Rouda, PCCC organizer

P.S. You can also make a tax deductible donation of $10 or more toward the Progressive Change Institute's pro-democracy work like Open Debates.

------------------------------------------------

Here are UltraViolet's questions for you to vote on!

Huge news--for the first time ever, the public can vote on which questions to ask at the next presidential debate.1

That means YOU and other UltraViolet members have a huge opportunity to make sure moderators ask the candidates questions actually important to women in real time.

Equal pay, paid family leave, child care--we need clear answers on these issues, and this is our chance to make sure voters hear them.

So far, none of the top questions touch on issues that impact women. But UltraViolet members have already submitted dozens of questions they want the presidential candidates to answer--and if we want questions about issues that impact women included in the debates, we've got to vote on the new, official forum. Can you cast your vote today?

Click on the question below to cast your vote.
This isn't by coincidence--the commission that runs the debates finally gave in to public pressure. Together with progressive allies, UltraViolet has been clamoring about the fact that the debates leave out issues most important to women, including 46,500 members who named over a thousand questions they want asked during the debates.

And it's about time that the debate commission listened. Out of the 700-plus questions that have been asked in the countless number of debates this election, only SIX had been about issues that impact women.2 Now here is our chance to make sure the potential next President answer questions that women are asking--questions about abortion, child care, equal pay, and more.

Thanks for taking action.

--Nita, Shaunna, Kat, Karin, Adam, Holly, Kathy, Onyi, Susan, Anathea, Audine, Shannon, Megan, Libby, and Emma, the UltraViolet team

THE SATANIC TEMPLE NEEDS YOUR HELP

Thank you for your support in assisting our efforts to promote plurality, enforce the separation of church and state, and use religious privilege to advance civil rights and fight entities that use religious-rights laws to discriminate.

This is the first time we have ever directly reached out to ask for donations, but we have taken a stand on numerous fronts, all of which require extensive resources.

Our proposal to establish After School Satan Clubs, designed to offer an alternative to the proselytizing Good News Clubs, are currently being reviewed by school districts. A major hurdle involved obtaining insurance, and I am proud to announce that we cleared that obstacle and can indemnify the schools.  We expect to announce the opening of the After School Satan Club in several school districts within the next thirty days. For the schools that persist in keeping us out, there is strong possibility that legal action will be taken against the school districts that grant special privileges to evangelical organizations.

We continue to battle Missouri over their waiting period requirements prior allowing access to pregnancy termination procedures. We have a hearing scheduled for October 31st for our State action and we are in the process of filing an appeal in our Federal action. We are extremely confident of a favorable ruling in the Federal case because the basis of the dismissal blatantly violates Supreme Court precedent, and we anticipate getting the case heard on its merits.

The offer of a statue of Baphomet to Arkansas Capitol grounds to stand next to their proposed 10 Commandments statue has also been progressing. This process is quite extensive and requires a personal appearance in Little Rock along with producing architectural plans.

These are just some of our efforts that require support.

There are several ways to help.
  1. You can visit SHOP SATAN at www.shopsatan.com and select contribute to The Satanic Temple
  2. You can visit REASON ALLIANCE at reasonalliance.com and select donate, and also consider setting up a recurring contribution
  3. You can encourage others to donate

Reason Alliance, Ltd., is a 501(c)(3) and donations to Reason Alliance are tax-deductible. Its mission is to promote the tenets of The Satanic Temple and its directors are the founders of The Satanic Temple.

Contributions to The Satanic Temple are not tax deductible because we believe that religious organizations should be taxed.

However much you are able to donate is greatly appreciated. We really need your support at this time to continue our efforts.

Very truly yours,

From 350 Action--We're running out of time to save the planet, and this election could be the most important one of our lifetimes

Friends,

I'm making my first Get Out the Vote calls for a Presidential election ever this week.

It's not just because Trump is bad -- though he's the literal worst -- it's because for the first time there are tools and a plan to use them that I think will make a difference.

  • 350 Action and NextGen Climate are using the best voter outreach tools that helped power the Sanders campaign and grassroots, voter-led insurgent campaigns all over the country.
  • We have a national network working on it. Already they’ve sent over half a million text messages, and tens of thousands more calls.
  • We're reaching out to the people that will decide this election. The goal is to call and text over a million young voters in swing states. Whether they stay home, cast a protest vote, or actually go to the polls for Sec. Clinton will be the difference nationally.

If you've been wondering about the right time to volunteer in this election: this is it. The race is close to tied, there's less than 6 weeks to go, and early voting starts soon.

Talking (and texting) to voters works. Donald Trump is the worst candidate on climate change ever. I think these are the exact tools to stop him. Click here to join me in calling and texting.

Let's make this happen,

Duncan

Right now you can make your voice officially heard regarding police accountability.

Because of the Arrest Related Death Act the DOJ has the responsibility to require police officers to collect data on any and all deaths of people while in custody. Right now, the DOJ is accepting public comment on the importance of this data collection.

We need this information. We need you to help make sure the DOJ has the support of the public to require police to comply.

Sign and send the petition: Tell the DOJ to require accurate data on deaths in police custody.

This opportunity allows the public to let the Bureau of Justice Statistics and the Department of Justice know data regarding deaths during arrest is extremely important to the public and media. The DOJ has a responsibility to uphold this Congressional Act to the full extent of the law--and holding police accountable is long over due in this country.

The public must weigh in on the importance of this data--OR the DOJ will only hear from law enforcement agencies, who will likely say this reporting is a burden.

The public needs to comment and make it known that data regarding the loss of life during an arrest is not a burden, but an opportunity to protect citizens in the future.

Sign and send our petition to the DOJ: Law Enforcement Agenices must report deaths in custody.

The data collected via the ARD Act will be instrumental in drafting and passing legislation that protects citizens and transforms the role of law enforcement agencies and the way they interact with citizens when they are in crisis. This data is just the first step in our fight to ensure that the police are working for communities of color and not against them.

The moments you take to clearly express your opinion will bring the Law Enforcement Agencies in this country one step closer to accountability.

Sign and send the petition here.

Keep Fighting,
Carissa Miller

Turnout will determine who wins this election. That's why Daily Kos has teamed up with MoveOn to help build their massive, volunteer-powered voter turnout campaign. There are already more than 100 neighborhood canvasses happening across the country this weekend.

MoveOn has found that sending text messages to invite folks to events is the best recruitment tactic. Using an app that makes peer-to-peer texting faster than ever—and doesn't cost a dime on your text messaging plan—MoveOn has already recruited almost 50% of canvassers through text message.

Will you sign up to get involved? We have a user guide, a support team, and everything else you'll need.

It's a simple process. You'll sign up today and then receive an email with further instructions. After a short, self-guided training, you'll be invited to sign up for your first shift. In no time, you'll be texting Democrats in crucial states and giving them an excellent opportunity to make a difference this fall.

Hillary can't do much as president if she is stuck with the same intransigent Republican Congress we currently have. We need your help to defeat Trump and give Hillary a Congress willing to do their jobs. With only weeks left on the clock, now is the time for all hands on deck.

Can we count on you to recruit volunteers by sending text messages with us? Click here to signup for MoveOn's Text Team and receive your next steps.

    Movies!

Many people are saying that Donald Trump is a lying narcissistic greedy bullying reality-denying piece of crap, but Mr. Deity gives Donald the benefit of the doubt, humorously hypothesizing that Donald is merely suffering from debilitating dementia and hallucinations becuz that's what Mister D. found on teh Interwebz...! Hehe!

Stephen Colbert on the debate--funny AF!! Donald's tears...so yummy!!!!!

Too easy, Stephen, and you missed it: you rightly said that Rudy Giuliani looks like an escapee from the Lollipop Guild, but you stopped short of saying that Donald looks like an Oompa Loompa!! D'oh!

Bonus with Stephen: Elon Musk wants to fire Donald into space. Hell, I'd be happy just to fire Donald period!! The "Make Mars Great Again" hat looks a lot better on Stephen than the "Make Mexico Great Again" hat did on that skull-puppet-faced escapee from the Lollipop Guild...! Donald claims to be 6'3" and weigh 235 lbs--I'm sure there's another 50 lbs in his gut and his ass that he's pretending doesn't exist, like his tax returns and his $650 MILLION foreign and domestic debt (conflict of interest much, Donnie boi?). A weight of 235 at Donald's claimed height gives him a BMI of over 29--which, as Stephen says, means that DONALD J. TRUMP IS OBESE. Chances are, Donnie isn't even 6'3" any more--he's probably shrunken over the years like the fortune he inherited from his daddy. So he's probably EVEN FATTER than that! Hypocritical AF for Donald to poke fun at people who gain weight or "like to eat" when he's such a GLUTTONOUS UNATTRACTIVE FAT PIG DOG MISS PIGGY OINK OINK WHERE'S MAH TROUGH himself! (Hehe! I'll hafta look up the rest of the horrible things that Fat-Don-the-john-wiper called women so I can use them on him!)
