Um, happy Friday...?

Greetings, fellow Dot Calm Readers, Freedom Fighters, and Truth Crusaders!

I'm still dealing with my 'puter issue...

...soon, I will be back up and running in all my snarky-but-loving (and hopefully lovable) glory.

SOON.

Todaze thots center on Hillary's historic nomination and Donald Trump's rather chummy relationship with Vladimir Putin.

Dot Calm would be so proud of Hillary making history as the first female presidential nominee of a major political party in this country. Dot really identified with Hillary. Both were hard-working, determined, compassionate, strong women who were under constant attack for breaking out of traditional expectations for women's roles. Both constantly took constant flak for being ahead of their time. All of the recent shootings and violence would have made Dot sick to her stomach, but Hillary's nomination would have had her weeping tears of joy--as would the finer moments of the Democratic Convention.

Re #benedictdonald...srsly, what gives?

Doesn't the tiny-appendaged orange fucksicle know that, at the very least, it's bad form to invite another country to commit espionage against one's own countrymen?

Yeah--he really said that.

Let that sink in for a minute.

Trump doesn't REALLY think he's fooling anyone by pretending it was a joke to ask Russian hackers to dig up Hillary's State Department e-mails, does he?!

He's lucky that the hackers don't turn up his tax returns and spill them on WikiLeaks!

(Have I mentioned recently that I lurve WikiLeaks? I know I did because I know I do. It seems to be the last bastion of accountability in this otherwise great country of ours.)

I'm not going to discuss the Trump-Russia issue in detail because there's plenty in this post that covers it, and I don't need to rehash it. Happy reading (er...!).

What I will say is that the responsibility for whatever relationship Trump has with Russia is Trump's and Trump's alone. Trump doesn't seem to realize it, but HE ALONE is responsible for his actions. I say that because, like all psychopathic narcissists, Trump leaves a trail of wrongdoing and blames everyone else for his own actions while denying he ever had anything to do with any of it. So, I just thot I'd say that up front because you just know he's going to blame whomever he thinks his shit will stick to...starting with Hillary, of course. (R-i-i-i-i-i-i-ight...Hillary is the one who asked the Russian hackers to spy on her, just like Hillary was the one who wrote Melania's convention speech! What was I thinking?!) I wouldn't put it past him to temporarily pretend-jettison his bromance with his man-crush Putin, either.

Speaking of plagiarism...

Yup...to paraphrase New York Daily News, Rep. Joyce Beatty totes slays that dress. Now, that is what I call a beautiful lady in a beautiful dress! Maybe it's her lovely dark complexion...or her wonderful silver hair--her emblem of her life experiences...or her radiant smile.... Maybe it's just the whole package. All I know is that that dress never looked better. No offense, Melania! I'm sorry that you just don't have it. Sure, your hair is pretty, and your figure is striking, but your eyes...! Srsly, dear, what is wrong with your eyes? For some reason, I always find looking at you to be...disturbing. Hugz!!!!!

Well, dear ones, I hates ta blog 'n' run AGAIN again, but stick a fork in me...I'm done AGAIN. It's been a long, tough week today [sic], and even though this is truly a labor of love, I'm still outta gas, and even the fumes have given up the ghost. And, this time, even the ghost of the fumes has given up the ghost.

*sigh*

Trump vs Obama on how to get money out of politics--read the rest of the article on Vox, which breaks down the differences...it's short 'n' sweet...but I couldn't resist popping in a YUUUUGE spoiler (the first answer is Obama's--the white on blue "PresidentObama" is hard to read):
...can you say, "slight difference of approach"? Eye gnu yew cud! Re O'Bama's thoughtful answer, I couldn't have said it better myself. Re the twit's tweet, how does he propose to keep himself from being corrupted by the corporate money he takes, huh huh huh?

A few words from Vox News (i.e., the truth, as opposed to FUX Noise)

Disability rights took the spotlight at the Democratic convention this year

Trump once said Obama wasn't authentically American. Last night, Obama returned the favor.

Democrats have stolen the GOP's best rhetoric — and Republicans have noticed

The Democratic convention's most surprising argument: Christianity is a liberal religion

Hillary Clinton is using conservative rhetoric to lay out a remarkably liberal agenda

As the article says, "The Obama of 2004 thought our divisions were mere spin"...
Comparing Obama's 2004 convention speech and his 2016 convention speech is depressing

Lengthy but well worth it:
3 winners and 4 losers from the third night of the Democratic National Convention

Joe Biden just turned Donald Trump's most famous catchphrase against him
...need a hint? "YOU'RE FIRED!"

The most radical speech at the DNC was NARAL leader Ilyse Hogue telling her abortion story

Unholy shit--There are now more guns than people in America

OK...FiveThirtyEight says that the Democratic primary was no-contest in favor of Hillary over Bernie. In light of Debbie Wasserman Schultz's bad behavior, I take comfort in what seems to be the fact that she did not steal the primary from Bernie. But I still do wonder why so many rank-and-file Dems preferred Hillary to honest Bernie. Brand recognition, perhaps?

Here's some happy news from BuzzFeed:

The following sponsored email was sent to you by AlterNet on behalf of Tammy Duckworth for Senate:

Dear Friend,

Last month, Tammy Duckworth got out of her wheelchair to sit on the House floor and demand action on gun violence.
Tammy comes from a family of outdoorsmen and marksmen. But as a combat Veteran, she knows that assault rifles like the AR-15 are weapons of war designed to rip through human beings.
Add your name to support Tammy’s effort to push forward legislation to end gun violence.
90% of Americans support background checks on gun purchases, but Republican congressional leaders refuse to hold a vote.
Congress’ failure to act is shameful. In the face of inaction, our best hope for progress on gun violence is to elect a congressional majority that is ready to pass meaningful gun legislation. That’s why Tammy is running for U.S. Senate.
Do your part: Add your name to help Tammy fight to end gun violence in the U.S. Senate.

From RootsAction--Whistleblower Appreciation Day
This month the U.S. Senate approved the Whistleblower Appreciation Day Resolution. But if the government had put you in prison for telling the truth about torture, you probably wouldn’t feel appreciated.

As CIA whistleblower John Kiriakou says, that Senate resolution is “no joke.” When whistleblowers reveal grim secrets that the public needs to know for the sake of democracy, the government’s goal is not only to punish -- “it's to ruin, professionally, personally, and financially.”

John served two years in prison for shedding light on the CIA’s torture program -- a steep price for telling the truth about some awful consequences of undemocratic power. NSA whistleblower Thomas Drake has also paid a steep price. They need your help!

With vindictive prosecutions, the government wrecked their personal finances. Please click here to make a tax-deductible donation now. Half of every dollar will go directly to John and Tom, while the other half will go to the Whistleblowers Public Education Campaign that they co-chair.

Below are some comments from John and Tom.
______________________________

John Kiriakou:

“The United States Senate in July passed the Whistleblower Appreciation Day Resolution. No joke. Senate Whistleblower Protection Caucus chairman Senator Chuck Grassley said that the resolution would designate July 30, 2016 as a day to recognize ‘the role whistleblowers play in shining a light on fraud, waste, and abuse... Workers who come forward to report fraud or misconduct in their agencies are frequently punished by their superiors for simply telling the truth. These brave citizens should not be penalized, they should be praised.’

Somebody should tell the Justice Department. The War on Whistleblowers has been a hallmark of the Obama Administration’s judicial policy. Legitimate whistleblowers are charged under the Espionage Act, a draconian law meant to punish traitors and spies, not truth tellers. Leakers with political connections or who are friends of the President get a pass. The goal is not just to punish. It’s to ruin, professionally, personally, and financially.

“Still we went into this with our eyes open. It might sound crazy, but we would blow the whistle again. We don't need the Senate's ‘appreciation.’ What we need is for the Justice Department to respect the laws already on the books, to support whistleblowers exposing waste, fraud, abuse, and illegality.

“Over to you, Tom.”

Tom Drake:

“Congress has yet to invite John or myself in front of Congress to testify before any committee regarding our whistleblowing on torture and mass surveillance, respectively. We both came forward at great risk and to this day are the only two people who have paid a very high price for exposing government wrongdoing and criminal conduct regarding these two state-sponsored programs.

“Prosecuting whistleblowers under the Espionage Act sends a most chilling message to anybody who dares to expose critical information on government conduct vital to the public interest done in the name (and under the cover) of National Security.

“Our whistleblowing turned our lives upside down. It will take years for us to recover from the ordeal of the government criminally prosecuting both of us as vindictive and malicious punishment for exposing their criminal conduct involving torture and mass surveillance.

“We would not break faith with the Constitution. We upheld our oath to defend the Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic (including our own government), faithfully serving our country in the line of duty at the CIA and the NSA -- even when our agencies didn’t and wouldn’t.

“We are eyewitnesses to the dark side of history. It is the truth tellers and the whistleblowers who are key to sounding the alarm and holding our own government to account. Please support our education campaign to get the word out that informs the public and holds up a mirror to those in power who abuse power.

“Thank you for your continuing support.

“Please donate generously to the RootsAction Education Fund to support this important work of getting the word out to people, so they can know the truth and choose wisely. The choice is further erosions of our rights and slide into dystopia -- or a fundamental renewal and rebirth of our birthright freedoms and liberties. Our future is at stake."

From World  Beyond War--get the U.S. military out of Ireland!

The World Must Support Ireland Against U.S. Wars

A Letter to Ireland from World Beyond War

Add your name here.
Those of us outside Ireland, and in particular those of us in the United States, have a pressing and urgent responsibility to lend all the support we can to our brothers and sisters in Ireland who are resisting U.S. wars.
Despite Ireland’s officially neutral status and its claim to have not gone to war since its founding in 1922, Ireland allowed the United States to use Shannon Airport during the Gulf War and, as part of the so-called coalition of the willing, during the wars that began in 2001. Between 2002 and the present date, over 2.5 million U.S. troops have passed through Shannon Airport, along with many weapons, and CIA airplanes used to transfer prisoners to places of torture. Casement Aerodrome has also been used. And, despite not being a member of NATO, Ireland has sent troops to participate in the illegal war on Afghanistan.

From Demand Progress--stop TPP

Terry McAuliffe, a top ally of Hillary Clinton's, just let slip that he expects her to change her position and support the TPP if she wins the election.1

McAuliffe tried to walk back the comment after it sparked a backlash from Bernie Sanders supporters—but this week the Clinton campaign has also refused to assert that it would fight a vote on TPP during the "lame duck" session after the November election.

The TPP is an awful trade deal that threatens Net Neutrality, ends protections against Wall Street recklessness, and allows corporations to sue the U.S. government in secret tribunals to overturn laws passed by Congress.

We can't afford to have politicians playing games, saying they're for it one day and against it the next. That's why we're redoubling our efforts to stop any TPP vote during the lame duck. Will you chip in $5?

Yes, I'll chip in $5 to help stop the TPP.

From ColorOfChange.org--stop Blue Lives Matter laws

A week ago, I was chained to the door of the Fraternal Order of Police for 13 hours with Movement for Black Lives activist in unison with protesters across the country to expose the FOP for who they are: the most dangerous fraternities in America.1 The Fraternal Order of Police is one of the driving forces behind the cynical and divisive legislation known as "Blue Lives Matter" -a bill threatening the movement to hold police accountable.

From its name to the legislative details, Blue Lives Matter laws are intended to antagonize and discredit efforts for racial justice and police accountability by dividing the American people with a fallacious choice between protecting Black lives or police officers.

O'Really is such a sick phuque
 that he thinks that slavery
was a lovely, idyllic time for Blacks...
like they were all smiling
while carrying cotton bales
and singing happy songs
while working
because, gosh darn it,
they had it oh-so-good
what with all the gourmet food they could eat
and lavish employer-provided mansions
and all the other daily luxuries they enjoyed...!
I'm sure O'MORON haz a sad that those
uppity, evil Blacks
ever won their freedom
from the best thing they ever had
in his stupid opinion...
being owned as chattel property
by Bible-believing whites.
If ignorance were a smell Bill O'Reilly would reek of mustard gas.
Isn't it funny
that O'Really thinks that slavery is
only bad for whites
but it's the best thing that ever happened
to Blacks?
