Dear Friend,

It has been a hot summer--record hot, in fact.

Alaska Fish and Game officials have reported large die-offs of trout, salmon and other fish which have been linked to unusual temperature conditions.

This isn't about some fish dying--thousands of fish are dying in their natural habitat.

This is exactly the sort of extreme heat scientists have warned will become the new normal under Climate Change.

It's not just Alaska: it's all over.

While we all feel the effects of climate change, some continue to debate its existence at all!

Well, we've had enough!

Here at the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), we're working to implement real solutions for Climate Change.

We don't just talk about the environment, we take action, and we want you to join us.

We've challenged businesses to be better environmental stewards:

FedEx and other package delivery companies are using hybrid trucks now, and

More and more fast food chains have stopped using Styrofoam entirely.

That's on us.

When Washington politicians made it their mission to prevent the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from enforcing the Clean Air Act, we helped build the coalition that fought to uphold it--and we won!

And Louisiana now has a clear plan to help restore their coastal wetlands and protect surrounding communities from hurricanes and flooding after Hurricane Katrina--That's thanks to the work we did here at EDF.

That's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to our work; but none of it would be possible without support from folks like you.

It's time to stop talking about climate change, and actually do something about it. Take the first step: Will you join us?

Fred Krupp
President, Environmental Defense Fund

Editor's Note--When we moved to a home on a canal and wooded area beyond, the property was teaming with a family of turtles, an egret, a family of blue heron, and water loud with jumping mullet, ducks and geese to lull one to sleep. Today a family of deer poke their heads once in a while...the mullet are no longer here, nor is the rest of the wild life that was once our neighborhood.
