My Birthday
Today is my birthday! If you think that’s a ripoff, my sister’s is Christmas Eve! So, all we ever heard was: that’s for your birthday and Christmas.
Wait a cotton-pickin’ minute! Seems to me my birthday is my birthday and Christmas is Christmas...you know, the fat guy puts on his brakes and puts a pile of stuff under the Christmas tree...hopeful that what I want is there...think he knows what a Sparkle Plenty doll is?
Hey! I told you I was old! Get over it!
My sister wasn’t as kewl as I was, so as the grown-ups hustled between the kitchen and dining room, a huge wail overtakes everyone and stops them in their tracks!
Whoa! Carol! That’ll get their attention...and it did! The grown-ups huddled around her (she’s three years younger than I, apparently the mature one in the group!)
So, once she has everybody’s attention she bawls out...today is my birthday!
OMG! The grown-ups say. Hmmm, I’m thinking, nice move! That’s the last time anybody forgot Carol’s birthday.
Carol and I were used to getting birthday presents in Christmas wrapping paper. I was probably a teenager before I realized there was actually wrapping paper that wasn’t red and green with little reindeer or Christmas trees or wreaths on it.
Carol always calls me on my birthday...and I do the same when Christmas Eve rolls around.
